Peru 1
Peru 1
1st post in peru! I am typing this from my iPod so of things are spelled wrong that's why. So obviously I arrived safely here. It was definitely a long two days of flights. It's so different here! We live above our landlords tienda. It's a cute yellow house. Currently I have nowhere to sleep. I have to wait until some of the other girls go back home until I will have a bunk bed. That's probably been one of the hardest things so far because there's 3 of us living in the common room with our bags stacked on the corner. So when we're in a hurry it's impossible to get to things I need in my bag. Some interesting facts: there are crickets all over, stray dogs are constantly in the street it's really sad, people here aren't shy about anything including breast feeding and going to the bathroom, it is super dusty hot and humid here. One of the things I love is that there is always music playing. They play their music so loud you can hear it a block away. It makes me feel like I'm living in a movie with a Peruvian soundtrack. So here are a few of the projects we're working on: starting a university/elementary mentoring program, working with girls soccer teams, helping a lady start her own business, helping a bakery and orphanage, and fixing a road and trying to help that town get water. I like the university mentoring program a lot! I got to go to the university here the other day and it was pretty awesome! I would love to go to a Spanish university :) yesterday we went to a town where we could shop. I loved the place. When we were there a group of college students came up to me and asked me if I spoke Spanish. I told them I did a little bit and they asked if they could interview me. So here I was my third day here being interviewed on camera in Spanish. It was for their school project. I could answer some of the questions but others I just couldn't understand. Then the all wanted their picture taken with me. Later I found out that the students interviewed two others from our group and the asked them if they liked the erotic statues on the stores. That's when I realized I had thought she was asking if we liked the stores in the area and so me and two other girls responded so me gustan!! Haha just a simple misunderstanding right? Now I have an embarrassing learning Spanish story :) okay so the best night so far was Friday night. We had a surprise birthday party for one of the Peruvian girls named Elizabeth. It was so much fun! The flights and first couple of days were rough but being able to do what I love again- dancing- Made everything so so so much better! I loved it! I danced with these super cute little kids too and now we're good friends. I watched the regular show in Spanish with them. Last night I was at a soccer tournament we put on and I haven't felt so at home since I've been here. Sitting there watching soccer was just so normal! I loved the feeling of home. Today is fathers day and I'm just gonna say I love my dad so much!! He teaches me to work hard and that school is important and he is always there for me. I'm so lucky to have him as my father! I'd never trade him :) wish I was there today! Love you dad!! ...and the rest of my family :)
